Christmas for the Troops: UPDATE

We cannot bring them home for Christmas, but we can take Christmas to them. For those that have given, thank you! For those who have not, you have until November 30, 2010 to become part of Christmas for a soldier.

A message from LTC Tom Spenard at FOB Wilson reads:

526 BSB lost one of our own on 12 October when SPC Matthew Powell’s vehicle struck an IED. SPC Powell died in the service of his country and our gratitude as a nation is deep and lasting. SPC Powell will be missed but he will certainly never be forgotten for his service to our nation. His legacy will remain with each and every one of us.

I know each of you is justifiably proud of your Soldier. However, the Soldiers cannot complete this important mission without the support of the loved ones back home. It is through the support and dedication of family and friends that allows us to push on and continue our mission; and for that I say thank you! Thank you for your support, thank you for the care and compassion you provide the Soldiers from home. It truly does make a difference to all of us over here!

The troops at FOB Wilson are preparing for Thanksgiving, according to Capt. Mei-Ling Fye:

This month is sobering, due to a loss of an outstanding young Soldier and is a bit sensitive for us all. We are ready for Thanksgiving and preparing our holiday meal for our Soldiers, who will still be able to enjoy turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving Day. I am thankful for the love and care from you and your volunteers, please keep us in your thoughts as we continue our support missions.
