Yakima seeks order forcing payment

New writs are now before the Court in a motion filed by Yakima Company today seeking payment by La Paz County.

Yakima is seeking an order requiring the County to immediately pay Yakima all funds not otherwise appropriated or necessary to fund essential government services. It would also force the County to take “all steps to raise revenue from any available source, and pay such funds to Yakima; and prepare a budget under which the County will pay Yakima all funds not necessary to fund essential County services.”

Yakima is also asking the Court to appoint a Special Master “to work with the parties and make recommendations to the Court on resolving any disputes that may arise.”

The provision to take “all steps” to raise money may be the most powerful provision in the motion. Yakima cites examples such as “issuing bonds, obtaining a credit facility, seeking funds from the State, and disposing of County property which is not essential for government services.” This would require the County to work with the Special Master to set aside ways to pay Yakima, perhaps by some of the means that have been discussed around the negotiating table.

The motion can be viewed in full here.

  1. Note to self –
Never say “You can’t get blood from a turnip” to someone you owe a lot of money to…..

  2. Well Citizens–now you pay for the stupitity of Dan Field and the B O S–scary–heck–downright hell’s awaiting.
where were you when all the warning flags were flying, acting like a oshritch? I don’t really care about spelling, you get the point!

  3. Well, I’m a little calmer now. After thinking about this a little, I admire Jim Willit for putting up with this B O S as long as he did. A lesser person would not have waited this long.
B O S–even after a jury of LaPaz county citizens found you and yours guilty, you continued to listen to Dan. Are you proud of the job that you have done under Dans leadership?
I hope the good citizens have a long memory of all of you. I think that the only way out for you three is to meet with Mr Willit and beg his forgivness. Do not include Dan Field in this. I think that Mr Willit is an honorable person and he may just possibly be worked with. I would give him all the help he needs in order to rectify this situation. I pray that it’s not too late. Whatever you do, eliminate Dan Field from any further todo with this situation.

  4. You do relize the jury found the previous board of supervisors guilty, right? and the Dan Field did not work for the county at the time? Or are we just going to tar everyone with the same brush?

  5. As long as there are people that thinks Dan has done the right thing by guiding the B O S, there is nothing more that I can say.

  6. Nobody was found “guilty” or “not guilty”. It was an issue regarding business contracts.

  7. They’re ALL guilty! This just didn’t happen by itself!!! It was an issue regarding EGO and POWER, and the County lost. Actually, the County didn’t lose the Citizens have!!! NONE of the elected and non-election officials responsible for this mess have had to suffer one iota!

  8. Ego and the intoxication of power are the ONLY reasons we are here today. Fisher pushed for this lawsuit and either convinced Edey to participate or made a deal with him. We are all poorer for Fishers actions. He has now sold his farm equipment and gave up his leases. He still has CRIT puppets and is working to get out of here before the population holds him accountable. He sold out District 1 folks to get the fair moved to Parker South and Parker folks by getting County Maintenance building to Parker South. His Parker South friends are the same good old boy club that has kept this county from moving forward since inception. He lives on Tribal land and has NEVER paid a cent in County tax. And he got us here. Viva la Fisher. And he sure hated audits! But Hey, when your buddies run the finance department why would you want audits?? And why did the Treasurer quit so suddenly? Just sayin’.

  9. BINGO!!!

  10. John is right – nobody was accused of criminal activity, and no one is to be held accountable for justice.

  11. It’ll take a County Attorney who’s not a member of the Club to do that Jerry!

  12. Mr. Roth. ……..You were tried and convicted bottom line. Get over it.

The county lost the lawsuit to Yakama. Time to get the entire truth out on what has been done. I do believe current BOS will and has done what it can in this dilemma. It is not Dan Fields fault. It is not the fault of this BOS. I do believe it when I hear Yakama wants the entire county and did not want to negotiate. I am sure there are some Yakama cronies who have first hand knowledge.

You not been here long, we all know this. There are people who live out of this county who like to throw their two cents. That is clear. Roth when the time comes RUN. McGuire come back and RUN. Maybe you can fix it and save us all.

I know it is easy to sit back and attack when your not in the fight.

  13. So these elected folks think there is a small fraternity of people who run the world, and they think they are a part of that fraternity. And as such, they think they must impose their values on those subjects under their control and influence.

They become more paranoid of NOT being in the fraternity than they are of being wrong, or of doing more harm to those who elected them in the first place. Being “in” is the goal, and “winning” the challenge is worthy of a higher rung in the hierarchy of the fraternity, the very club that only exists in their paranoid fantasies.

  14. sunonshadows, what is most important in democracy, in your opinion.

No harm, no foul, no judgement. Just your opinion, please.

  15. My opinion. I think you should come back to La Paz County and save us all.

  16. Sunonshadows, you lost, get over it! The sooner the better, for all involved!!!

We ALL have been in the fight, against YOU, and your cronies at the La Paz County Government Hall of Shame!!!

Just because you hide behind your moniker, and attack me, you think you can evade who you really are, just like you (try to) do in real life. We know better, and now the entire County knows too!

What did La Paz County ever do to deserve you?

  17. Jerry Mcguire from what I have heard you are at Ohio State getting a Dr. in some sort of Agricultural discipline. Stay there. And never come back to this place. Go to work in a place that would appreciate what you have to offer. This place does not. You put your ass on the line trying to recall Fisher a few years back and you saw how you and others were attacked. La Paz County is not the place for folks that care about the future. The leaders here only care about how to pad THEIR wallets and toss the rest under the bus,

  18. sunonshadows
I hear you, and I’ll come clean. You implied, based on what I have said, that I “disapprove” of this board and the previous boards. I apologize if I implied this.

Up until about 2002-2004, I was very proud of my county. This county has so many good people, the kind of people you are honored to be associated with. The folks in LPC have done amazing things throughout the years, incredible and inspiring things. They have inspired me. I feel as if I stand on the shoulders of Giants when I take a stand. Fisher was a hero to me for many years. I admired the man and idolized him. I don’t know what happened after about 2002. I talked to Fisher, and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I assumed it was me that was wrong, or stupid, or ignorant or whatever. So I checked out, and when I checked back in, I scrutinized what I was being told. Scrutinized, not criticized. Fisher let me down, big time. Now, I criticize.

Who do I “approve” of? There are about 80,000 governing bodies in the US. About 1.5 – 2.0% fail to pass scrutiny. I do not approve of this. Locally, I think there are many governing bodies who do well: PUSD governing board, Parker Fire Dept., NRCD Board, Extension Board, Parker Valley Irrigation Committee, and several others. I cannot think of a board that I was not crossways with at least once in my career – but, under scrutiny, they exceed, and that is what is important.

How I feel is unimportant. It’s how you feel that is important to you, I hope. If under scrutiny, you think that given the information available, the board acted reasonable, as a reasonable person would, then regardless of your ideology, you can’t really criticize.

This is why the Administrative Procedures Act, Open Meeting Laws and the Freedom of Information Act is so important, to me at least. To scrutinize, and that is important, in my view of democracy.

  19. Well, here we are, back to the same back-bitting that we have all dwelled upon.
I for one am very sorry for slamming Dan and the B O S. I have finialy realized that this situation is not of their doing.
However, I think that we have some very intelligent people here in LaPaz county that will step forward and help all of us with this very difficult situation.
I think we should all step back and let some new people step forward and be known.
Mr Roth, can you possibly contain your emotions for awhile? There are good folks that would step forward if they were not afraid of you attacking them. Please put aside your comments for a while as they are not productive for the County or the Town Of Quartzsite.
So, let’s hear from some other people that may have some very good ideas.
    Thank you for your consideration.

  20. HI EVERYONE…..

I MUST ADMIT, I HAVEN’T TAKEN THE TIME TO READ ALL OF THESE LETTERS IN REFERENCE TO THE LAWSUIT, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE DIFFERENCE OF OPINION.

WITHOUT NAMING SPECIFIC NAMES, DATES, OR OCCURANCES, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT AND PRESENT MY OWN THOUGHTS ON THE ENTIRE MATTER.

SINCE I MOVED TO LA PAZ COUNTY IN 1985, I HAVE BEEN CLOSER TO THE POLITICAL ARENA THAN EVER BEFORE. OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE PERSONALLY WITNESSED UNETHICAL AND DOWNRIGHT ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR ON BEHALF OF CERTAIN ELECTED OFFICIALS, ALL OF WHICH HAS INSPIRED ME TO PAY CLOSER ATTENTION TO THE DECISIONS OF ALL POLITICANS, FROM THE FEDS, TO THE STATE, TO LA PAZ.

WHEN WE GO TO THE POLLS, WE CAST OUR BALLOTS WITH HOPE AND GREAT EXPECTATION, THAT OUR PARTICULAR CANDITATES WILL GO INTO OFFICE WITH THE PEOPLE’S BEST INTERESTS AS THEIR GREATEST PRIORITY. UNFORTUNATELY, AND ALL TOO OFTEN, THE PEOPLE’S BEST INTERESTS SEEM TO DISSIPATE LIKE A MIST, WITHIN HOURS OF THEIR TAKING OFFICE.

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE THOSE THAT WILL BE QUICK TO “FORGIVE AND FORGET”, NO MATTER WHAT HAS TAKEN PLACE AND NO MATTER HOW BAD THE DAMAGE MIGHT BE. I AM NOT SAYING THAT WE SHOULD NOT FORGIVE. WHAT I AM SAYING IS THAT WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET AND SHOULD WORK TOGETHER TO INSURE, TO THE BEST OF OUR COMBINED STRENGTH, THAT SUCH THINGS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO US AGAIN.

IN ORDER TO PREVENT IRRESPONSIBLE ACTS BY THOSE WHO WE HAVE TRUSTED TO REPRESENT US, IT IS INCUMBENT UPON EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US, TO MONITOR THE DECISIONS AND ACTIONS OF OUR SO CALLED “LEADERS”.

TO DO THIS REQUIRES TAKING NOTES IN ADVANCE OF A PUBLIC MEETING, TAKING NOTES DURING THE MEETING, THEN VOICING OUR THOUGHTS AND OPINIONS AT THE “CALL TO THE PUBLIC” SEGMENT AT THE END OF EACH MEETING. DURING THIS SEGMENT, PER *A.R.S. 38-431.01.H, A CITIZEN MAY BE PROVIDED “REASONABLE TIME” TO SPEAK AT THE MICROPHONE.

*A.R.S. 38-431.01.H “A PUBLIC BODY (BOARD OF SUPERVISORS) MAY MAKE AN OPEN CALL TO THE PUBLIC DURING A PUBLIC MEETING, SUBJECT TO REASONABLE TIME, PLACE AND MANNER RESTRICTIONS, TO ALLOW INDIVIDUALS TO ADDRESS THE PUBLIC BODY ON ANY ISSUE WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF THE PUBLIC BODY. AT THE CONCLUSION OF AN OPEN CALL TO THE PUBLIC, INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC BODY, MAY RESPOND TO CRITICISM MADE BY THOSE WHO HAVE ADDRESSED THE PUBLIC BODY, MAY ASK STAFF TO REVIEW A MATTER OR MAY ASK THAT A MATTER BE PUT ON A FUTURE AGENDA. HOWEVER, MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC BODY SHALL NOT DISCUSS OR TAKE LEGAL ACTION ON MATTERS RAISED DURING AN OPEN CALL TO THE PUBLIC UNLESS THE MATTERS ARE PROPERLY NOTICED FOR DISCUSSION AND LEGAL ACTION.”

I HAVE PERSONALLY FOUND THAT IT IS A TREMENDOUS HARDSHIP, OR IN MANY CASES, COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE, FOR TAXPAYERS AND OTHER RESIDENTS TO ATTEND OUR BI-MONTHLY BOARD OF SUPERVISOR’S MEETINGS, DUE TO THE MEETINGS BEING HELD AT 10 O’CLOCK IN THE MORNING ON MONDAYS. THE FACT OF THIS MATTER IS, THAT MOST PEOPLE ARE AT WORK, HAVE APPOINTMENTS, ARE OUT OF TOWN FOR THE DAY, LIVE IN OUR OUTBACK REGIONS, OR ANY NUMBER OF GOOD REASONS FOR BEING UNABLE TO ATTEND AT THAT TIME OF DAY.

IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT UP SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST, EVEN FAIRLY RECENTLY, THAT THE MEETING TIME BE CHANGED TO 6 O’CLOCK IN THE EVENING, BUT HAS BEEN SHOT DOWN BY THE BOARD EVERY TIME.

THINK ABOUT IT….IF THE BOARD ROOM SEATS WERE FULL DURING EVERY PUBLIC MEETING, MAYBE THE BOARD WOULD RECONSIDER MAKING IRRESPONSIBLE DECISIONS THAT HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO FINANCIALLY RUIN, EMBARRASS OR OTHERWISE CAUSE UNDUE STRESS TO THE COUNTY. IF THE BOARD HAD TO LOOK THEIR CONSTITUENTS IN THE EYES WHEN THEY DECIDE ON A MATTER, ETHICS AND RESPONSIBILITY MAY DIRECT THEIR ACTIONS, NOT SPECIAL INTERESTS.

I WAS AT THE MEETING HELD ON FEBRUARY 7, 2011. WHEN I WALKED INTO THE BOARDROOM AT 10 O’CLOCK, THE ROOM WAS ONLY ABOUT 2/3 FULL, WITH ABOUT HALF OF THOSE BEING COUNTY EMPLOYEES. WHERE WAS EVERYBODY? PROBABLY AT WORK. COULD THIS 10 O’CLOCK MEETING TIME POSSIBLY BE A DELIBERATE EFFORT TO REDUCE ATTENDANCE AND THEREBY REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF CRITICISM AND NEGATIVE PUBLIC RESPONSE TO ANY PARTICULAR ISSUE? MAYBE NOT.

FOLKS, IF WE JUST SIT BACK AND LET OUR ELECTED “LEADERS” RUN AMUCK WITHOUT QUESTION OR COMMENT, THEN WE HAVE NOT ONLY BECOME VICTIMS OF THEIR DECISIONS, BUT ARE QUICKLY BECOMING THEIR SUBJECTS.

AS FOR ME, I WILL NOT BE A WILLING DOORMAT, I WILL NOT BE A WILLING VICTIM, NOR WILL I BE A WILLING SUBJECT!

I KNOW THAT THERE ARE THOSE WHO WILL NOT AGREE WITH ME, AND THAT’S OK.
I ALSO KNOW THERE HAS TO BE AN ANSWER SOMEWHERE, BUT TO WILLINGLY SUBMIT TO TYRANNY, IN ANY FORM, SHOULD NEVER BE CONSIDERED AN OPTION.

  21. King, please don’t type in all CAPS. That is considered yelling in internetese. I do agree with ya tho Bro.

  22. SORRY ABOUT THAT, LOST, I’M REALLY NOT YELLING, IT’S JUST THAT TYPING IN CAPS IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ. IT’S EASY TO SEE I’M CERTAINLY NOT AN ENGLISH MAJOR, THANKS.

  23. A Dr. in Agriculture???? Come back to La Paz and help us elect a Constitutional Sheriff and let’s fill up all this open space with industrial hemp and grow our own fuel and other bountiful goodies. ##### ###########. They’re just little men behind the curtain.

    Insults deleted. -J

  24. Roger that King. You are a good man in my book. Roth I am not sure anyone can save this place. “don’t pay attention to the man behind the curtain”…. hehehe good one

  25. John,
That was an insult??? The selective enforcement and creative editing aound here is akin to living in Quartzsite!

  26. Ya just can’t be civil, can you roth?

  27. Sure I can Gracie. The problem is all this decorum and civility you want so badly has led us to where we are today. There used to be a time in America when the citizens stood up and let their failing leaders have it, no holds barred. Now everyone sits on their thumbs and talks about how free we are while the traitors in charge destroy our way of life. I will not sit silently and let this happen. You can, and do. That’s fine. But don’t bitch about us who aren’t going to take this anymore.

  28. Roth- You are entirely free to criticize County leadership with any critique you like. You Just Can’t Insult People.

  29. John,
Have you noticed all of the insults hurled at me? I can take it. Why can’t your pals at County?

  30. I would like to support Mr. McGuire on his pending degree. I have no ill feeling towards him. I supported him when he was trying to recall Fisher and Eddy. I thought it would get done. Majority of the county knew what the BOS was doing back then was wrong. I do think it was all fuel by the Egos of some. What happened? Two did not run for reelection, and the one that did lost. The people were frustrated and showed it.

This BOS came into their term and ran into an economy where the bottom fell out. The state stripped the county of a ton of money and less people traveled here to support our tax base. Not the BOS fault that happened.

Next thing was Yakama. I do believe they have been talking with Yakama, as stated in the BOS meeting. This is what needs to be brought out into the public. We need to be informed of what is going on in the negotiations. I do not blame the BOS for exhausting all avenues before negotiations. That is their responsibility. Now that everything has been exhausted, lets see what happens.

This BOS has been supporting audits that should have been done by the previous BOS and then some. Sounds like there is an issue in finance. How can people blame this BOS for not having the proper audits needed (which could help secure a bond “Yakama”). We were double screwed by the past BOS.

I support whom La Paz county voters elected. No matter what party or area they are from. If it was not for the economy and what the past BOS did to this county, this would be one of the better BOS this county ever had.

Roth, I am sorry, I heard you did try to run.

  31. Roth- Please point out any insults directed at you and I’ll remove them. Very simple.

  32. If this is one of the better BOS this County has ever seen, no wonder we are so upside down here.

It’s NEVER the politicians fault around here! It’s the economy’s fault the Supervisors didn’t negotiate with Jim Willett like they campaigned on? It’s the fact that audits weren’t being done that we can’t make an attempt to settle this debt? We had money to hire a Supervisors husband to a high paying job that never existed. We have the money to hire John Drum’s relatives. Lots of County employees get to drive County cars filled with gas we all buy. The County Attorney wastes huge gobs of cash on political persecutions. Your excuses are like you know what and they all stink!

If Dan Field wasn’t around to mislead this board maybe there’d be a chance at success. But they were the geniuses that hired him so that’s not going to happen.

May God have mercy on this County, because the politicians certainly don’t!!!

  33. This BOS has had this problem for over 2 years! They knew what they were getting into when they stood at meet the candidate night and pledged to immediately work a deal. These folks could very well be at least as bad as the last BOS. As far as creating a Park Ranger position, WTF?? The dude threatend to sue the county and we create a new DEPARTMENT? And buy a new SUV with a nice paint job and throw $$ that was for the sheriffs dept. at him? Then hire a guy that was dismissed from a county position for alledged improprieties?? Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see this the good ol boy network hard at work. No, these 3 could have done the right thing and actually TALKED to Willett but chose instead to hide behind the lawyers and “sorry can’t talk about it, we’re in a lawsuit”. I am going out on a ledge and saying that as of the day they took office this was THEIR problem. I am suprised that no one has blamed BUSH for this yet!

  34. LMAO!! Ok folks this is for everyone. The Parker Pioneer has removed the stories about Yakima from it’s website!!! HAHAHAHA Fisher is still in charge of the Pioneer! His last bastion of power. Soon he can start printing such as, “George W. Bush bankrupts La Paz County”

  35. Right on Lost In La Paz! Start your own newspaper and print the truth! How’s this for a headline?

Dan Field and Board Of Supervisors Bankrupt La Paz County!

If the Parker Pioneer printed this I’d give them 50 cents for a copy!

  36. This is the way it is with some of the people on here. Lost and Roth, if people do not have your views and opinions you attack and babble on. At the last BOS meeting Dan Fields laid out what this BOS has since they came in. They were negotiating while the case was going through the appellate process.

Roth your vendetta against the BOS member you lost to and Fields is so transparent. Now that you were tried and convicted you are focused on Vederman. WOW! If someone who disagrees with you it is full on attack mode. People can be civil and get results.

As far as the Ranger deal. I read the complaint on the sheriff recall site. It is just horrible what went on there. That is put on paper. It is a telling tail and makes some of the rumors coming out of the sheriffs department seem more viable.

I met the new Ranger a month ago. He was in an older Ford Expedition. I asked him about some of the rumors. He did not say anything negative about the sheriffs department. I though he would be disgruntled and talk bad. He said he kept his original salary and fixed up an older car. He seemed like a nice guy. Not like some of you.

  37. Sunonshadows, you’re embarrasing yourself. Resign NOW!

I’m against all waste in government, and I speak out about it. How does this make me bad or uncivil?

My speech has been denied in the most hallowed of places, Town Hall. My right to participate in the most fundamental of American Rights, your local government, has been denied. Repeatedly!!!

And when I address these grievances, I get arrested, and tried on bogus disorderly conduct charges, the catch all bad cop charge when they don’t have anything else.

The taxpayers have lost Millions and Millions and Millions of real dollars because of this La Paz County government. The kids of this county have to leave to have any kind of quality of life because there is no opportunity here. There is no opportunity here because the socialist loving masters here have ruined all economic development, for decades now!

You’ve been here many, many years, what have you got to show for all you’ve done here? (Nice big house!)

And what makes you think you can hide behind your bogus handle while you attack me for doing what’s right?

  38. Hey Shadow if all the stuff on the sheriff recall site is so horrible how come we don’t have 20 new rangers? Is the new Ranger the only one SMART enough to write a 17 page diatribe of whining and bitching that got him the JOB? Or did he just ride the coattails of his WIFE the SUPERVISOR to get the job? I guess all the other ###### at the SO department are not stupid, just not CONNECTED!!!! Sorry guys. If you all had been married to a Supervisor you would have nice Ranger vehicles too, to offset any legal action. Methinks Roth is right on the money here. Is this a Supervisor? A County Manager? And you believe Field?? HAHAHAHA!! Sorry, I live by the Colorado River not Da’ Nile………

  39. This website is outstanding because it allows everyone to voice their opinion as much as they want to. Mr. Roth is entitled to his opinion about County Attorney Sam Vederman. My friends and I think Sam Vederman is doing a wonderful job and we hope he stays in office for a long time unless he replaces Judge Michael Burke in the future.

  40. Mr Wright–this guy has been shut down at Council meetings and Supervisors meeting for his ranting and raving, crying that he didn’t have a jury of his peers- heck, we would have had to go to some little country where the people are overthrowing the government in order to find this guys peers. I support the right to free speech, but Jade and Roth are really pushing the limit. How much more will you put up with from this guy?

  41. Gracie,
You don’t believe in free speech. You believe in limited speech based on what you like! What is the limit? Who sets it? YOU? I didn’t even get my three minutes at the last BOS meetings. The last time I got 30 seconds before John Drum “shut down” my free speech. What a great American he’s turned out to be! (NOT) In Quartzsite ALL items on the Town Council Meeting’s Agenda are “Not Open For Public Discussion.” Ain’t Amerika great? We’re baaaad people for trying to assert our rights!!!

Hey lapazarizona, if you and your friends think Sam is doing such a great job, why don’t you guys come out in the open and tell us who you are and why you guys like him so much? There’s a lot more of us in La Paz County that are severely disappointed with him. He lied to me when he was campaigning, just like the Sups lied to everyone else. He’s a member of the same old La Paz Plunderers Club. What do you get out of him being CA or your future dream judge? Does he make your paycheck easier?

  42. That is what makes this website the best. The opinions flow and everyone gets to make their own decision based on what they read. It is absolutely wonderful. We will see what happens in the future.

  43. Most people believe the sun will rise tomorrow not because it has in the past, but because they understand the structure of the solar system…..

Democracy is not perfect. And to think that democracy is the best form of government is also short sighted – it is the best now, but who is to know what will be best in the future? Some form of governance and freedom will eventually replace democracy. We just don’t know what and when.

Democracy today is sticking out your face in front of the world – warts, wrinkles and all, for the whole world to see. This is what we do. We are not perfect, we have our faults, but so far, this form seems to work best. This is today’s democracy.

My freedom ends where your freedom begins. I cannot use my power, (be it time, voice, noise or lack of respect for others, etc, whatever) to close the door and shut out others. Neither can you.

Leadership is precious, but how do you define leadership? How do you define liquid? You can explain water, beer, milk and whiskey, but really, can you describe liquid to someone who doesn’t know liquid? That’s the same with leadership, you can’t describe it, but you know it when you see it.

Leadership comes from within, and it comes not by screaming at people in the public square, but by listening, and thinking, and doing what you can, within your devices, that what is best for you, your family, and your community.

  44. Your silence is deafening!

  45. Jerry, with all due respect, America was never set up to be a democracy. The founders knew that all democracies eventually murder themselves, like ours is now. This is why we were given a Republic. And ours came with a Constitution. It was a brave experiment that worked brilliantly for a while!

  46. With all due, or undue, respect, your noise is deafening. Do not sir, ever, scream at me again.

  47. I was talking to lapazarizona, not you Jerry. What makes you think I was screaming?

  48. And so, we enter the debate between democracy and republic. In my interpretation, in America, we have both. It is part of the Federalism philosophy (States Rights (individual) vs. Federal Rights (collective)). The Federal Government is both – majority rule (democracy) and republic (protection of minority rights). The outcome is a blending of both, achieved through separation of powers, and Roberts’s Rules of Order. We have the best of both philosophies – majority rule and protection of minority rights, through the Executive (democracy), the Congress (minority rights + majority rule) and the Judicial (protection of individual rights).

The County is a democracy – majority rule. There is no Congress, or Robert’s Rule of Order to respect the rights of the minority opinion. The backstop for minority rights is the whim of the Courts.

Again, this is my interpretation and subject to debate.

  49. And so deimosghost’s offers another interpretation, via YouTube.

I assume the label is from from the ghost of Deimos, (the Greek mythological figure who represents dread). Which would be a dreadful ghost? Or are we talking about the smaller of Mars’s 2 moons? I dunno, I’m just guessing.

So, I’m hoping I have another point of view on democracy vs. republic from a human life form, not via cartoon, but here and now, within this forum.

  50. “Critical thinking, in its broadest sense has been described as “purposeful reflective judgment concerning what to believe or what to do””. “Critical” in this context does not mean “disapproval” or “negative.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_thinking)

I hope to read a novel opinion from a LPC resident, not someone else’s opinion ripped from the internet in a cartoon.

  51. A mind is like a parachute Jerry. It works best when it is open. What difference does it make where someone gets their knowledge from? Are books better than the internet? And why would you call these links cartoons. They’re educational! I thought you were into that.

I choose to not say a whole lot more because you’ve already called me noisy and a screamer. IMHO you’re no different than the others that have shouted me down at Town Hall. (While accusing me of doing the same)

In a nutshell, democracy is the tyranny of the majority. It never lasts, and always ends badly.

Let’s say 51 percent of the people say all blond haired blue eyed people must pay more taxes. They even vote on it and pass a law. Does this make it right? In a democracy it would be. Or, let’s say 51 percent of the people vote in free food for anyone who doesn’t want to work. Good idea? No, but in a democracy, it’s a go. The problem with democracies is the people always find a way to vote in more for themselves and less for you. And if you are the minority, tough luck, your vote isn’t as important as the majority. This is why we were given a Republic, not a democracy, or a 50/50 version of the two.

  52. “You’re no different than the others”

If Mr. Roth is challenged he goes into his attack mode. No one is immune, not even Jerry McGuire. Remember, the best defense is to go on the offense.

Right now Mr. Roth is testing Mr. McGuire to get a feel for how this will go. Once Mr. McGuire questions or criticizes one or two more of Mr. Roth’s ideas it will turn into name calling from Mr. Roth if history tells us anything.

  53. Mr. Roth, Thank you for your answer. It is a bit selfish of me, as I really do enjoy hearing, and reading, other people’s ideas and understanding of things. I suppose it is a pleasure taken by most teachers as well.

Even in the democracy you describe, which is an idea or understanding shared by many, the minority still have choices – they have the choice to leave (or not to be there to begin with), and to not be victimized by those “democratic” actions. As more of the minority leave and congregate elsewhere, they become the majority in their new community.

And the community they leave behind gets smothered under the weight of their own self-serving ideology. Who is left to support the entitlement system after the “losers” have all left?

“Community” is defined as you wish – neighborhood, common interest group, people within a category, even a race, ethnicity or socioeconomic unique identifiers: (the Hispanic community, The law enforcement community, the Bouse community, a learning community, etc..)

  54. Jerry, nice words and intent….. but you are trying to teach a mule to sing; it wastes your time and annoys the mule.

  55. M and lapazarizona, it’s funny you call me a name caller when that’s all you have done.

lapazarizona and m, you guys think tyranny is ok, good luck with that!

  56. Please M, do not insult the mule as the mule is a very knowlagble animal. Unlike the screamer we have here on this soapbox.

Any other form of a public forum would have not put up with the ranting and raving of this person–same screaming and poison ideas day after day–does’nt anyone else get tired of him?
Thought this forum was to try for new ideas for the Yakima problem–not to give a soapbox to this fellow to expound his rantings and ravings over and over.

  57. Gracie, you’re the one ranting here. Why don’t you share some of your “knowlagble” with us on how to solve the Yakima problem.

Nobody is screaming here but you!

  58. Don’t believe your name was mentioned–haveing a bad day mikey?

  59. I’m “haveing” a GREAT Day gracie, how about you?

You don’t fool anyone, only yourself!

  60. Michael- The more you attack my Sam the more I know the voters and resident’s of LaPaz County will like him

  61. Good mom, I’ll keep it up! Sam needs all the help he can get! Maybe he’ll come around to understanding what his Oath of office means. I doubt it, he’s a lawyer! ####################

  62. Sam’s Mom, Roth needs attention this is his sad, sad way of getting it. Everyone knows Sam is a sucessful and Roth is not. Your son is a target of kooks, ne’er-do-wells and oxygen thieves….. and of course convicted criminals. You may not know but Roth has been criminally convicted by a jury.

  63. I back from the Cactus and I want all to come on over for some cold ones anytime. it is right next to the highway here and the peple are good folks and we all have best of times. M the Octitillo or VFW Sat or Sun is good for me. A few more cold ones aint a bad thing now is it for some real good La paz peple I do believe. lets have some real talk about what needin to be done here. Roth aint no patriot he aint not true sayer. Salome exposed him and hes exposed all over these parts and Quarszite exposed him and those peple in Yavapi county know all bout his ways I do beleive. parker peple also exposed his ways. He says he aint exposd but hes exposed and he knows it cause he wont show face in salome at all. no one sees him here. Salome dont put up with his ways and you all are breakin the rule by talkin to hisself, the rule is keep talkin but no with him cause hes like a little kid and he need to be in the attension i do beleive.

  64. “What difference does it make where someone gets their knowledge from?” The difference is called credibility. It’s why you won’t find YouTube or the Desert Freedom Press cited as academic sources. Would you go see a doctor who learned how to perform surgery from YouTube?

  65. Good,
I brought the lawyers out into the open.

RR, you obviously don’t know what credibility means. (Do YOU have any?) Desert Freedom Press is at least reporting news, compare that to the other media in this county. And we’re not performing surgery here, bad analogy!

M, yes Sam Vederman, your buddy, spent tens of thousands of La Paz County resident dollars to shut down free speech, only to get a misdemeanor charge, NOT the felony he wanted so he could completely stop my political activities because I make the criminal political scum of this county nervous. You and uncle Adolph must be proud. Jefferson, Washington and Adams are rolling in their graves!!! And all of those Americans who died defending our rights, did it for nothing.

Billy, I’m exposing myself right now!

And John, why would you delete advocating being a plumber or an electrician? Your censorship here doesn’t match your weak argument you emailed me yesterday, and it only proves you are biased here!

  66. Desert Freedom Express? Two issues back, you and Jades issues had on the front page that the Nazi salute is O K here in the U S, especially in a Council meeting.
Give it up –there is no truth in the desert feedom express, only your ranting and raving.

  67. Gracie, what do you have against freedom of press or expression? We tolerate you here! By the way, that article you mentioned (did you read it?) was a court case that the 9th Circuit Court Of Appeals ruled in favor of the activist who gave the salute, to a Nazi Police Chief, I believe. The problem here is you only like popular speech. Anything that makes you think differently than you do now is evil and needs to be banned. They tried that in Nazi Germany and it didn’t work out too good for the citizens, just like it will end badly here.

  68. You’re right. This is not surgery. You are trying to save Quartzsite, the County, the State and the U.S. by citing sources from YouTube. I’m sure if YouTube was around for our founding fathers, they would have used it as a foundation for our Constitution.

DFP is an editorial, not news. Journalism is supposed to reflect unbiased fact when reporting the news. Credibility is not claiming to be news with a “rumor mill.” Credibility is not telling other people how to work when one hasn’t had a job in 20 years. It makes one wonder if you are receiving assistance from the government you blast. That would be a little hypocritical, don’t you think?

  69. RR, I work, I just don’t do J.O.B.! I’m not sucking on the government tit, but I bet you are! Yes, I think it would be hypocritical. Tell us who you really are RR and then we can have an honest discussion. Hiding behind your handle, methinks you have something to hide!

  70. (And for all you YouTube haters out there)

What won our independence so many years ago was the dissemination of information.

Benjamin Franklin, the Bill Gates of his day, was a printer, among many other things. If it wasn’t for pamphleteers and the writings like The Federalist and Anti-Federalist Papers, we would’ve never had America.

So when anyone ever criticizes content because of the medium used, they are being ignorant and arrogant. These types usually get elected to public office, so BEWARE!!!

  71. roth aint no patriot and he aint no true sayer but he aint bad I do beleive. he is good fun for these parts. he dont want no trouble cuase he likes spreadin he words of widsdom.

Today we all took drive to desert Dash and then had cold ones at the desrt bar way out there in the desert. We do like it there and there peple are nice and aint no one thinkin bout problems out in those parts i do beleive. All just had beer and food and good time fun. America at its best.

I say go to desert bar when go get away from things. good pelpe there. were fixin on going to Silly als one day to see our quarszite buddys. M are you goin?

my bet is that roth aint bad when he aint taklin bout politics stuff. If he can keep his wfie she must see somthin bout hisself I do beleive. tonite I lift a cn of nnatural lite in honor of Roth.

  72. Bottoms up!

  73. Billy, you should not be drinking in honor to the quart (zsite) jester. Billy, I going to call your better half in the morning and tell her you drinkin too much and she will cut you off from lovin and drinkin cause your praising Roth…. shame on you Billy Wayne.

  74. M, how is your plan to remove Dan Field going?

  75. My friends and I still support Sam Vederman no matter what Mr. Roth says. Sam Vederman is doing a wonderful job and our support for him will continue. We never hear anything bad about him except from Mr. Roth.

  76. Roth, you are toxic, all sane persons will not interact with you any further, Go find another forum to fill your ego and hate. I request, everyone, IGNORE all roth postings in future…….

  77. M I disagree with you. We should keep Mr. Roth engaged. He is a Charles Beard follower.

M do you really know Billy Wayne? How can a man who can barely spell, and I mean no disrespect by that, even turn on a computer? Is he #####?

  78. M, I am toxic to YOU. You say I am not kind, I am just not YOUR kind. And thank God for that! How is your plan to get rid of Dan Field going?

Putting on your best red fingernail polish and going to see Billy today?

lapazarizona, Get out of the house and talk to the citizens about Sam Vederman, he’s about as popular as Dan Field.

I am not a Charles Beard follower, however at least he was a thinking man, which is more than I can say for most of the La Paz County Plunderer Club Members.

    I follow more this guy…

    http://www.libertypoet.com/freedomwatch/freedomofchoice/

    And yes, Billy is #######!

  79. Mr. Roth, all my friends and I talk to people all day long and we live in Parker. I think we have good insight about how the people in Parker feel about Sam Vederman and we all think he is terrific.

Parker is close knit and everyone talks to everyone. Most of us know more than one person in law enforcement or someone that knows someone in law enforcement. The same for the courts and the lawyers.

We like Sam Vederman from town all the way upriver to the Bill Williams bridge. That is the majority of the voters in the county. My friends and I chuckle when we discuss what you write because some of the people you praise, who also live in Parker, think Sam Vederman is going a great job. Matthew Newman and King Clapperton to name a couple.

I can’t speak to the Quartzsite voters. That is your turf so to speak. I do know some people in Salome and Bouse and they really like Sam Vederman. Therefore, when you make your declarations about Sam Vederman they carry little weight with all due respect.

The talk here anyway is that Sam Vederman would be a great judge. Either way the citizens of La Paz County are fortunate to have such a dedicated and knowledgable County Attorney as Sam Vederman.

If you have such insight into this please share your thoughts about who should replace Sam Vederman.

  80. Lucifer would do a better job than Sam Vederman.

  81. Roth- I’m getting more and more complaints about you, and I’m inclined to agree with them. I don’t want to ban you from posting, but I’m being gradually persuaded that this place is more unwelcoming to others because you’re here. Last chance: please reign it in. Lucifer? Really? You must control yourself if you want access to post at all.

  82. John,
You should’ve been with me in Salome today. I had a meeting with a man who was royally screwed by the “Justice System” of this county. He contacted me because of my articles in The Desert Freedom Press, and my posts here.

I’m willing to bet the complaints you get are from the Establishment. I know who most of these people are and they don’t like it when I tell the truth about them. Our County is in a severe crisis, and it’s not just the Yakima situation. That is just a symptom of the problem. There will never be prosperity and success in this county until there is a real justice system here. Why do you think a local jury awarded the maximum to Yakima? It’s because the citizens know it’s rotten to the core here and want it changed. The ones who fight me here and don’t want real positive change are in on the scam! (Sam Vederman hires out you know!)

Lapazarisona asked me who would be better than Sam Vederman and I told him the truth. By the way I also told what I typed in about Sam to this family that has had their life literally ruined by this county’s “justice system” and they agreed with me.

Glen Buckaloo (Sp??) sent a man to prison for a murder he [SAYS he]* did not commit. When confronted with the facts, he didn’t want to deal with it. He didn’t care! An innocent man was completely railroaded and nobody cared! Is this the kind of county you want to live in? Do you have kids? (yet) How would you feel if your kid got railroaded?

I’m willing to bet I have more support from the real people, not the county government hacks on this site, than they do of the citizens. Really, why do they have to hide behind their handles if they are so proud of their accomplishments here? (and then call you when their feelings get hurt.) How about the feelings of the citizens that get railroaded? Isn’t that just as, if not MORE important, than what an elected or non-elected government official feels? They are PUBLIC SERVANTS aren’t they, or are they our masters like they think they are?
This is not the time to be stifling speech. You let them say and do anything but when I give it right back at them, they cry!

    *John’s edit.

  83. Roth- I have no issue with the message; it’s your delivery that’s the problem. If you stayed calm, got your point across constructively, and avoided being derogatory; you’d have had zero objections from me. But I’m constantly having to moderate you, for everything from insults to libel.

Even in your last post, your comments about the innocence of a man convicted of murder tell the story from his side only, as though it were fact, ignoring the findings of the justice system including, presumably, a judge or jury, and smearing the name of the Deputy County Attorney. A more sensible person would say, “He maintains his innocence.” You say, “An innocent person was completely railroaded…”

I won’t stand for these smears, libelous comments and insults. Your participation is welcome otherwise, but I’m beginning to doubt that you know when you’re breaking these rules at all. One last chance.
