Public hearing on bond proposal scheduled

A public hearing will be conducted by the Board of Supervisors of La Paz County, Arizona at a meeting of the Board on Thursday, August 25, 2011, which begins at 10:00 a.m. (or as soon thereafter as can be accommodated by the Board’s agenda) in the Board’s Meeting Room, located at 1108 Joshua Avenue, Parker, Arizona, on a proposal for the County to incur “long-term obligations” of the County (within the meaning of A.R.S. § 11-391) in a principal amount not to exceed $19,000,000 with estimated total financing costs (including interest costs) of $18,900,000.

Payment of the principal of and interest on the long-term obligations is expected to be paid from a transaction privilege excise tax to be imposed by the County pursuant to law and will not be secured by the full faith and credit of the County or ad valorem taxes. The purpose of the long-term obligations is to pay obligations of the County resulting from a final court judgment against the County, court costs and attorney fees including outside legal counsel retained by the County, but not costs incurred by the County Attorney in connection with the judgment and interest accrued on the judgment amount, to pay transaction costs and to create reserves.

The Board of Supervisors will receive oral comments at the hearing. Written comments must be mailed or delivered to the La Paz County Board of Supervisors, 1108 Joshua Avenue, Parker, Arizona 85344, Attention: Donna J. Hale, Clerk of the Board, and clearly marked “Re: Proposal to Incur Long-Term Obligations,” in sufficient time to be received before the Board’s meeting to take place on September 12, 2011, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. at the same location, at which time the Board expects to take action on the proposal to incur the long-term obligations. Comments may also be made via a link on the County’s main website: http://www.co.la-paz.az.us.

  1. Bring on the debt!!! Prepare for 20 years of debt slavery folks!!!

If this meeting room isn’t packed with angry Americans, you truly get the government you deserve!

  2. Just to clarify, we should use the “angry Americans” approach because it’s working so well in the town of Quartzsite, right?

Obviously there are very few people in the world who enjoy taxes, but I think all the hollering about opposition to the excise tax will fall on deaf ears without any viable alternatives. Recalling the board or firing the county manager just leaves the county with new problems and their salaries don’t come close to settling the judgement.

Go to the meeting to show your concern for the prosperity of the county, not just to spew ignorant, anger-laced opposition. If you do have ideas, please share them through the proper channels. I honestly don’t know enough about the options to give a viable idea, but hopefully other people do. I definitely fall in the category of those who do NOT enjoy new taxes…

  3. Jack of all,

See this is where you don’t get it. It IS working in Quartzsite. The criminals destroying our town will not be there this time next year.

If people don’t stand up to the out of control Board of Supervisors and Dan Field, they will still be there! Grow a spine people and let them know taxation without representation is WRONG!

There were plenty of opportunities to settle this YEARS AGO! I even tried to help AFTER I loss my election to Holly Irwin (How’s that worked out district 3?)

When Holly Irwin, John Drum and Sandy got elected and brought Dan Field on as administrator, the debt was only about 10 Million Dollars (as crazy as it sounds)

Now it’s going to be up to 16 to 17 Million, maybe even 19 MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS.

And this idea Dan spews that it will not be completely paid by the residents but by the tourists as well is completely asinine! Once tourists start seeing these taxes going up they will bitch and complain and tell others and not come around here so much. HELLO, has anyone seen what “tax and spend loving Dan Field” did to Quartzsite in the 8 years he was here???

Jim Willett even offered to trade for the golf course or the landfill, an across the board swap was offered, no cost to the public and no cost to the politicians. The board of Supervisors did not even attend the meetings. Dan Field went around and said things like “bankruptcy will be a non event” Now he says he doesn’t like taxes??? Give me a freaking break!

WHY are they insisting on saddling the residents of this County with this nightmarish proposal? Because Dan Field and John Drum and George Nault and the rest of the La PazCounty Plunderers Club Members don’t care about YOU!!!

Don’t sit there and say there are no other options. That’s a bald faced lie!!!

Rise up people, take your County back!!!

GIVE MR. WILLETTE THE CONCESSIONS FOR THE COUNTY PARK SYSTEM, THE GOLF COURSE AND THE LANDFILL. IF THE DIRT DOES BELONG TO THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT, SO BE IT, BUT THE BUSINESSES ON TOP OF THAT DIRT IS, OR SHOULD BE, GOOD TO GO. THESE BUSINESSES STILL REQUIRE EMPLOYEES AND WILL, OR SHOULD, PRODUCE A TAX BASE FOR THE COUNTY IN RETURN. THIS UNNECESSARY LAWSUIT HAS RISEN FROM APPROXIMATELY 9.4 MILLION TAX DOLLARS TO APPROX. 19 MILLION, ALL BECAUSE OF ARROGANCE. GO TO THE MEETINGS, LISTEN, WATCH AND VOICE YOUR CONCERNS AT “CALL TO THE PUBLIC”. THIS BOARD DENIES RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS LAWSUIT, BLAMING IT ON THE PREVIOUS BOARD. AGAIN, “YOU AND I ARE STANDING TOGETHER NEAR A HAYSTACK. YOU LIGHT IT ON FIRE AND WALK AWAY. I STAND THERE AND MAKE LITTLE EFFORT TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. WHO IS TO BLAME? ANSWER: YOU FOR STARTING THE FIRE AND ME FOR DOING BASICALLY NOTHING TO PUT IT OUT. BOTH OF US ARE EQUALLY RESPONSIBLE”.

  5. Just as a quick FYI. At Mondays 1:30 meeting the bond consultants were telling the Board of Supervisors about the details of the estimated collection of taxes and payment of debt. At one point Supervisor Sandy Pierce stated “oh does that mean we can be paid up and done with this in 4 or 5 years?” The bond consultants just looked at each other in dis-belief and said”No Ms. Pierce we are looking at 19 to 21 years”. You should have seen the look on her face. Poor girl. This is the subterfuge that they are feeding the Supervisors!!!! I say “Bovine Scatology!!!!!
