Take a Kid Fishing is On!

On March 28, 2011, Walter Shontz asked for help to keep the 32-year-old tradition of “Take a Kid Fishing” alive. The original post is here. Recently, Walter posted a letter in the local newspaper thanking everyone for their help and stated that AZFGD received 450 letters.

I have just received an email from Kirk Young, Fisheries Branch Chief for Arizona Game and Fish:

Mary,

Final update as promised, see the press release at the link below.

The bottom line is, we have the clearances necessary for the continuation of stocking at Parker Kids Fishing event for the next 10 years!

The process took over 3 years and is the most extensive I have ever seen. As long as the Department completes its commitments for mitigation to offset potential impacts of our stocking program and barring any successful law suits (a tough thing to do in this day and age…), we are good to go.

I will let you know if anything changes. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to give me a call if you have questions.

Regards,

Kirk

A BIG thanks to Senator Don Shooter for his role in encouraging this great program to continue! Needless to say, Walter is just thrilled and wants to remind everyone that next year’s event is scheduled, as usual, for the second Saturday in February. That is February 11th. Thanks to everyone who wrote letters.

FISH ON!
