Motorists should be aware of some road works and possible delays on a couple of routes this week.
The Arizona Department of Transportation is continuing its pavement improvement project on an 11-mile stretch of Interstate 10 east of Quartzsite beginning today (Jan 9th). Crews will be working on I-10 weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Intermittent lane closures will take place as crews prepare to remove and replace sections of pavement. Motorists traveling between Quartzsite and Phoenix should plan ahead and plan for minor delays. This project is expected to be completed by April.
In addition, construction crews are working on pavement improvements on Highway 62 (Rice Road) west of Parker toward Desert Center. Work continues from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Motorists are subject to delays of up to 10 minutes with one-way controlled traffic at intervals.
A local utility company is also continuing work on a project along Highway 72 between Parker and Hope this week. Utility crews will be replacing power lines and need to intermittently stop traffic on the 72 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 11), Thursday (Jan. 12) and Friday (Jan. 13). Speed will be reduced to 25 mph near milepost 28, and traffic will be stopped as needed.
