La Paz County Sheriff’s Department Press Release

On July 11th, 2012 at approximately 9:40pm, La Paz County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to 35056 Harmony Lane in Wenden, AZ in reference to a stabbing. Upon arrival, Deputies found two male adults bleeding from stab wounds. The victims were identified as David Hernandez, 50 and Ancelmo Urea, 48. Both received severe stab wounds to their mid-section and were transported by ambulance to Quartzsite and then air-evacuated to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, CA. Both are currently in the Intensive Care Unit.

The suspect, identified as Jose Luis Rubio, 39, had fled the residence. Deputies conducted a search of Wenden and the suspect was located walking down 2nd Street near Grape Street. Rubio was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Sub-Station in Salome. It appears that some type of argument between the victims and suspect had occured at the Harmony Lane residence which resulted in the multiple stabbings.

Rubio was then transported to the La Paz County Adult Detention Facility and booked for 2 counts of Attempted Murder, 2 counts of Aggravated Assault and other charges.

Sheriff’s Office Investigators are currently following up on the investigation.
