KLPZ’s annual Flog tournament (‘golf’ spelled backwards) tees off early tomorrow morning at Emerald Canyon Golf Course.
The annual event, which involves playing 9 holes of golf with baseball bats, pays prize money to its amateur players and helps benefit chosen local charities. Many of the ‘floggers’ try for a chance at the prize for Best-Dressed, which can be quite a sight for any avid golfers that may be around the course at the time. The teams of 3 have some creative ways of putting, too; common techniques include using the baseball bat like a pool cue.
The Flog Calcutta, scheduled tonight at 6:30pm at Roadrunner, gives the general public a chance to bid on the Flog team they think will win. Teams are auctioned off to the highest bidder, who will get the prize money if their team comes first (or second, third, fourth or fifth) the next day. Floggers themselves receive goodie-bags, T-shirts and hats, and – if they place among the winners – trophies and other prizes.
This year, KLPZ has chosen the Parker Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels program and Christmas for the Troops as Flog’s benefit charities.
