County receives grant for officers

The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has awarded the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office with a $30,000 grant for overtime for fiscal year 2012-2013 that will fund officers to enforce traffic laws in La Paz County. This grant helps La Paz County pay officer’s overtime during the many holidays that people visit La Paz County.

The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office has been a partner with GOHS for several years funding our county with overtime and equipment grants. Those grants are vital to ensure public safety from alcohol and other vehicle related fatalities and injury collisions.

Last fiscal year, La Paz County Deputies with funding from GOHS were able to pay officers overtime which generated the following statistics:

  • 2994 traffic stops
  • 83 DUI arrests with average blood alcohol level of .164
  • 43 seat belt tickets
  • 5 child seat tickets
  • 43 underage consumers
  • 1452 other issued citations

Keeping our county residents and visitors safe from traffic related fatalities or injuries is the goal of this unique partnership with the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
