A former Parker councilman was handed a 20-year prison sentence for sex with a child on December 31st.
Frank Hernandez was initially arrested April 10th, 2012 for a number of counts relating to child molestation and sexual conduct with a minor, identified in court as an underage female. He changed his plea to ‘Guilty’ earlier in December.
Hernandez’s parents read letters to the court on his behalf, arguing for a lesser sentence due to good character, gentle nature and being a good employee and family provider. The letters also mentioned his service in the U.S. Navy and his community involvement. Hernandez had been a candidate for District 1 Supervisor when he was arrested.
The victim also spoke in court, saying her life had been ruined by Hernandez and her innocence lost because of what he did.
Hernandez will serve 20 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections. The sentence was one of the last handed down by La Paz County Superior Court Judge Michael Burke before his retirement.
