Driver Dale Dondel scored the coveted first overall position at the qualifying laps Thursday in his all-black trophy truck for Best In The Desert’s opening race of the season in Parker, AZ.
The BlueWater Parker 425 Presented by Impact kicked off with a roar of engines as over 70 trophy trucks and 1500 class vehicles qualified in the desert near Parker. Dale Dondel (#7) starts first Saturday morning at 7:15am on California Avenue, a clear advantage. Dondel, owner of Racer Engineering, begins first in the 1400 trophy truck class.
Sam Berri goes next, as the first contender in the 1500 class, followed by Kyle Conlon, Tracey Graf, Lloyd Sproule, Chris Kemp, Mark Weyrich, BJ Baldwin, Gustavo Vildosla Jr., Jason Voss, Shawn Croll, Ray Griffith, Loren Brown, Craig Potts, Robby Gordon, Troy Herbst, Justin Lofton, Jonathan Swift.
Noted racer Robby Gordon starts 15th overall, 12th position in the trophy truck class. Some observers thought his paddle tires for the loose sand my have hurt him overall. This year marks Herbst Motorsports’ return to the Parker 425 too, with Troy Herbst taking the wheel for the Time Trials Thursday and coming in 13th position for trophy trucks, leaving the start line Saturday right behind Robby Gordon. Tim Herbst is also racing and will start 19th in the 1400 class.
With the big names in the sport lined up and ready to go, and many Parker-area racers going through Contingency today too, it’s expected to be an exciting race Saturday. Join KLPZ 1380am at klpz1380.com for live coverage all day.
