Temps are definitely heating up, but Life has never been cooler on the Parker Strip. Some may ask how we can top an amazing winter where we saw extremely mild temperatures all season long…minus some unexpected light snowfall around New Year.

Summer seems to always begin a little earlier for Parker than rest of the world. Having already seen a triple digit day in early April serves as an indicator that the River is open and ready for business. Boats have been serviced, PWCs have been gassed up and the promise of a good time awaits those who launch out and throttle up.

Speaking of throttle, this past weekend on the Parker Strip was the season opener for the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series. Bluewater Resort & Casino hosted the first year event on the beautiful shores of the Colorado River on a weekend that couldn’t have been more perfect for racing. “The Colorado River Challenge” (as the event was officially titled), featured Drag boats that boast 8,000-10,000 horsepower and easily reach speeds topping 200 MPH. As if that weren’t exciting enough a new world record was set by the “Spirit of Texas” which reached a hard-to-believe speed of 274.92 MPH!
Locals and fans alike are both excited to see the three day event return next Spring.
