Parker man fatally shot after driving onto property in Chino Valley

A Parker man was fatally shot after he drove onto someone’s property in Chino Valley and fired a shot, according to media reports.

Delton Griffith, 58, had apparently driven his pickup truck onto the property unannounced and gotten it stuck in the middle of a garden area. When the resident of the property and another man visiting approached the vehicle, Griffith allegedly fired a weapon at least once. Both men were armed, deputies say, and fired back at the driver, killing him.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting after deputies responded to the home near Yuma Drive and Road 3 at around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Investigators interviewed two men and other witnesses for several hours and collected evidence Sunday morning after a warrant was served at the home.

Officials said that self-defense was a factor in the investigation and no arrests have been made. Prosecutors will ultimately decide whether any criminal charges are justified in the death.

A toxicology report will determine whether any impairment was a factor in the incident.

My prayers go out to the man family , I hope the other to go to jail and be charged for what they did they should be pointing guns at other people I’m from Parker myself and I know what Parker is all about

  3. This does not make any sense whatsoever. Delton was a kind hearted man. He would not have ever shot at anyone unless he felt threatened. I know Chino Valley very well and you can easily get lost trying to find your way.

This was such a senseless act and I pray that those 2 bastards who shot him rot in hell. Rest In Peace my friend you will be dearly missed.

If anyone knows about services please be kind to post so that we may be able to pay our respects. Thank you kindly.

  4. YOU HOPE THE OTHER TWO GO TO JAIL FOR SHOOTING BACK AT SOMEONE THAT DROVE ONTO THEIR PROPERTY AND FIRED A GUN AT THEM WHEN THEY WERE COMING TO CHECK ON THE NOW DECEASED PERSON?…….. ITS UNFORTUANTE THAT SOMEONE DIED BUT PEOPLE BETTER REALIZE THIS IS ARIZONA AND IF YOU SHOOT A FIREARM AT SOMEONE THERE IS A BIG CHANCE THERE GOING TO SHOOT BACK…….

  5. That’s assuming the police believe the word of the homeowner about who shot first.

He fired the first shot ! No charges should be filed in a self defense shooting .. so what is Parker all about ?

  7. We only know what we read and once again I will state that Chino Valley especially at night in the dark especially around 8:45pm if you are not familiar with the area it is easy enough to get lost and end up on someone’s property. It even happens in Parker, I see people pulling up to private property’s to do a turn around all the time.

There are 2 men who can collaborate their stories and 1 who cannot speak to tell his side. It makes me wonder if he wandered up while something illegal was taking place, after all it states that a warrant was issued to search the property. We can allow our minds to see different scenarios but that fact is that a wonderful man is no longer with us.

I hop you never fall and hit rock bottom in your life. You know nothing about this man. How about offering prayers to family and friends which is the humane thing to do!

I stand by my statement. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The humane thing to do is to humiliate people like this, so they pull their heads out of their asses, and don’t do dumb shit. Pray for his family? For what? They didn’t get shot by being stupid, he did.

  11. First of all Aaron all of this is still under investigation so the facts have yet to be made. No one knows the circumstances just the outcome. I seriously hope that you never find yourself that this family has. I don’t know you and glad I don’t but just by reading what you posted the only dumbass and idiot here is YOU! From the impression I get the only big thing on you is your mouth!

  12. I don’t know if anyone will see this, it happened 4 years ago yesterday. Having read the preceding comments, some of them very negative from uninformed people, I feel compelled to set the record straight. January 20th, 2018 at approximately 8:30 PM Myself, my wife and 4 friends stepped out in front of my home to say goodbye after dinner. as we did we noticed a pickup in the garden. Long story short, 4 of us went to investigate/assist the driver. At approximately 8:45 PM, while trying to figure out how to get the pickup free from the garden and get the driver on his way, he decided it was a good time to pull a firearm. My wife noticed the gun, ran and hid as she informed me, I went to see, Mr. Griffith pointed the gun at me from the drivers seat of his truck and fired. I immediately returned fire striking him once, subsequently causing his death. Inaccuracies, unknown at the time facts and omissions from the story include;

Mr. Griffith was on a date with a neighbor and was asked to leave because his actions made her fear for her safety.

Mr. Griffith was intoxicated, .219 BAC.

There was a search of the home, there was no illegal activity as Mary speculates, it’s standard procedure, not anything special.

All evidence was recovered, processed and held until the investigation was complete.

There was no prosecution as it was absolutely self defense.

So, to those who said such nice words about me, please know you’re wrong.
