Elks grant provides defibrillator, tourniquets

A grant from the Elks has allowed a defibrillator and 10 tourniquets to be provided to the Parker Police Department.

The Elks National Foundation Gratitude Grant was awarded after the local chapter in Parker applied for it. The defibrillator will be kept at Parker Police Department and used by officers as needed, according to Sergeant Michael Bailey.

Tourniquets will be given to officers and kept on their belts for use as may be required in the line of duty. A shooting incident several weeks ago near Quartzsite required the use of tourniquets, according to Bailey, and they can be a life-saving measure.
