Brooke Water to be sold, community meeting planned

The water utility serving the Arizona side of the Parker Strip will be sold to a much larger company, if plans for the sale come together, and a community meeting to answer questions about the proposal will be held Thanksgiving week.

Brooke Water LLC has been serving 2100 customers in the river communities north of Parker, AZ for many years. The utility would be bought by EPCOR USA, a division of a large private water utility which operates widely across Arizona, as well as in New Mexico, Texas and across Canada. The Parker Strip will be EPCOR’s 45th service area. The company already runs a water utility in Lake Havasu City.

Brooke has been the focus of many complaints in recent years, including regarding outages and bad customer service. Some of the infrastructure is over half a century old, according to discoveries made by the Arizona Corporation Commission in 2016. EPCOR says it will spend $7.5 million in improvements and investments over the next 10 years.

A community meeting is scheduled for Thanksgiving week regarding the proposal sale, hosted by District 2 County Supervisor Duce Minor. Representatives of both Brooke and EPCOR will be present to talk about the sale and answer community questions. The meeting will be held Tuesday, November 26th, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Boating & Safety Meeting Room at 8484 Riverside Drive.

EPCOR agreed to buy Brooke back in May, but the sale must be approved by the Arizona Corporation Commission.

  1. Can’t wait to hear about the rate increases…

  2. Oh don’t worry there will be big rate increases and they will be ongoing. But don’t worry they’ll tell you you have clean, safe drinking water always lol

  3. They can’t just come in and raise the rates the Arizona corporation commission decides how much they can charge
