Thousands to float river Saturday

The annual floating party on the river known as the Tube Float is back for its 44th year, and people are packing their inflatables, sunscreen and coolers for a day of sun, water and fun.

“Registration is looking very similar to last year’s number,” said Melissa Newton, Director of the Parker Regional Chamber of Commerce and Tourism. “Tube Float is a great way to enjoy everything that the Parker Strip has to offer while relaxing with old friends or meeting new ones. We are finalizing all the details to ensure a safe and fun-filled day for all and we’re looking forward to another great event this year.”

If floaters haven’t done the event in a few years, the route has changed. The Tube Float registration will be at La Paz County Park Saturday morning from 8 am until noon. Floaters will be transported north by bus to the start line at Buckskin Mountain State Park once they register. Tubes should be uninflated when you arrive, and air compressors are provided at the launch area. Ice will be available for purchase for coolers.

The route takes participants past popular river bars and restaurants Sundance Saloon, Fox’s and Roadrunner and finishes next to Pirate’s Den in La Paz County Park and their parked vehicles. Registration on the morning of the Float is $40 per person, with an additional $30 fee if you’re bringing a boat or personal watercraft to assist your floating group.

No personal vehicles will be allowed to enter Buckskin Mountain State Park, only La Paz County Park where the event registration is located. Watercrafts are not allowed to launch at the registration area or starting line. Other possible launch locations include Cienega Springs public ramp, BlueWater Resort & Casino (fee), River Island, Rock House Recreation Area, or one of the many privately controlled ramps around the Parker Strip. You will need to bring your watercraft to the start line at Buckskin Mountain State Park by water to meet your group.

To keep the event happening, floaters are urged to make sure to pack out everything you bring in, including trash.

At the finish line, Pirate’s Den will be hosting an After Float Party with music, drink specials and fun.

  6. How can this event move forward with the crisis within Parker Town Hall? The town still does not have a permanent town manager and is paying two people to do one job and people think a tube float should take place? Shiver me timbers.
