Prescribed burn planned near Parker

Fire managers from the Bureau of Land Management’s Colorado River District will conduct prescribed burning near Parker between December 2023 and March 2024, as weather and fuel conditions allow. The burn area is located seven miles northeast of Parker and one-half mile west of Parker Dam Road near Crossroads, on the California side of the Colorado River.

“The removal and prescribed burning of vegetation piles helps reduce the threat and spread of wildfires and improves access to the river,” said the BLM in a press release. “Burning may occur multiple times during this time to eliminate piles of vegetation accumulated during maintenance of BLM recreation sites and creation of fire breaks.”

To ensure the safety of residents and visitors, BLM fire management personnel will ignite the piles when weather conditions are conducive to burning. Area residents and visitors may see some light smoke during the burn operation. Access to the burn area may be temporarily restricted during the operation to provide for public safety.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021 provided funding for this prescribed burn. The legislation funds fuel treatments to help reduce the risk of catastrophic wildfire and benefit neighboring communities.
