On Election Day at approximately 5:30 pm, the La Paz County Elections Department received a bomb threat that was sent to two employees. Law enforcement responded but no explosive devices were ever found.
Officers from the Parker Police Department, Colorado River Indian Tribes Police Department, Quartzsite Police Department, and the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office responded and immediately evacuated the building and surrounding area. With the assistance of the Town of Parker Public Works Department, roads in the immediate vicinity were shut down.
At the request of the Parker Police Department, the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s bomb squad responded to inspect the area for any explosive devices. Following a thorough search, no evidence of explosives was found in the areas of concern.
“The Parker Police Department treats all threats to public safety with the utmost seriousness,” Police Chief Michael Bailey said. “We have
coordinated with the FBI to assist us in investigating the source of the threat. The Elections Department quickly established a secure site to receive ballots from polling locations. After determining that the area was clear of any danger, we prioritized the safety and integrity of the ballots. All ballots were safely secured, ensuring a continued commitment to the integrity of the election process.”
