A man in Big River was arrested by the SWAT team for allegedly holding a woman against her will.
On Thursday, July 9th at 6:35 a.m., deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence in the 7000 block of Yakima Trail in Big River for a call of a disturbance.
The Department says its investigation revealed that Ramon Melendez forcibly took the victim’s cell phone and later held her against her will. The victim was able to escape and contacted the Sheriff’s Department. Melendez was reportedly armed with a pistol.
The SWAT team was called to assist and they were able to take Melendez into custody without incident. He was arrested for robbery, false imprisonment and being under the influence of a controlled substance while armed. He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center, a 2100-inmate facility in Adelanto, and is being held on $200,000 bail.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Deputy Abel at the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department Colorado River Station at (760) 326-9200. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
