Great for the kids; adults may not quite agree.
A little later than usual – my fault (JW) – here’s Josh Savino’s review for Epic, the hot animated feature playing right now. One more day to see it!

JOSH: Epic tells the story of an ongoing battle deep within the forest between the forces of good and evil….
The first animated family film of the Summer promised to bring characters and a storyline that would engage young minds. It did just that. I took my three sons this past weekend and, in the words of my oldest, “Dad, that was EPIC!”
Personally, I did not like it as much. I’ve seen “this” movie a million times over:
- Once Upon a Forest
- Ferngully: The Last Rainforest
- James and the Giant Peach
- Arthur and the Invisibles…just to name a few.
However, my children and yours are probably not as cynical as me when it comes to movies that carry the banner “SAVE THE EARTH!” or “DON’T USE OIL!” or “MANKIND IS KILLING THE PLANET!” or “WE HAD TO CAST BIG NAMES TO ATTRACT VIEWERS BECAUSE THE STORYLINE IS AVERAGE AT BEST!” (Seriously, Beyonce, Steven Tyler, and Pitbull? What is this, the Grammys?!)
Translation: Your kids will love the movie and it will keep them in their seats and entertained for 1 hour and 42 minutes. It is for that reason alone I give it 2 stars.
