Quartzsite Police Department and La Paz County Narcotics Task Force K9 seized 140 pounds of methamphetamine on Sunday on Interstate 10.
The officer and a K9 handler were working an interdiction detail on the highway together, and conducted a traffic stop on 27 year-old Gabriel Vanier-Pop. According to the La Paz County Sheriff’s Department, the stop was a typical traffic investigation, but the K9 ‘alerted’ on the vehicle, giving the officers cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, the officers located approximately 140 pounds of suspected meth hidden within the vehicle.
Vanier-Pop was taken into custody and transported to the La Paz County Detention Facility. He is being held on $150,000 bond.
The drug seized is in the form of large, blue shards. According to Sheriff’s Captain Curt Bagby, the meth is made blue for ‘marketing’ purposes.
By Parker Live‘s math, the estimated average street value of the meth seized in the bust is over $5 million.
