Sheriff’s deputy gets award for high-tech amber arrest

A deputy sheriff has been honored for their role in an arrest following an amber alert using a high tech alert system.

On November 18th, 2022 at around 8:12 pm, deputies with the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office were notified of a possible Amber Alert vehicle traveling on Highway 72 in the Bouse community toward the Town of Parker. The suspect vehicle had been detected by a FLOCK safety camera that is operated by the La Paz County Sheriff’s Office. The amber alert had been issued in the state of Wyoming for a 14-year-old missing and endangered female juvenile from Casper Wyoming.

A sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle on Highway 95 near mile marker 138. The driver was identified as 36-year-old James Warren Martin of Casper, Wyoming. Martin was taken into custody for an outstanding felony custodial interference warrant. The juvenile female was located unharmed in the suspect’s vehicle.

Deputy Sheriff Laura Garcia has been recognized as a winner of the 2023 FLOCK ‘Safety #Solved Awards.’ The award recognizes law enforcement officers who use FLOCK’s technology, including Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras and the Raven Gunshot Audio Detection system, to solve challenging and impactful cases, as well as agencies using technology to work more closely with their fellow law enforcement and with their community.

Nominees were solicited from across the country and over 220 law enforcement personnel from 25 states were nominated by their colleagues.

FLOCK Safety cameras are in use in over 3,000 communities across the country. In addition to law enforcement, FLOCK technology is used by neighborhoods, businesses, improvement districts and schools.

The case was turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
