Three young women from the Parker area will be competing in the Miss Arizona pageant.

Keerstyn Edwards (above center) will be competing for Miss Arizona, while Julissa Alaniz (left) and Aubry Herrell (right) will compete for Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen. The pageant will take place June 19-21 with the 19th and 20th being preliminary completion nights and the 21st being the final night. The highest ten scores will make up the top ten that will compete on the final night of competition, but this year for the first time ever there will be a top 11, with the 11th spot going to the contestant that wins the People’s Choice Award. The public can help the girls make the top 11 by voting for them at missarizona.org. Each vote costs $1.00 and all proceeds go towards college scholarships.

Keerstyn, the current Miss La Paz County, is the 18 year old daughter of Tim and Kelly Edwards. She is a recent graduate of Parker High School and will attend Brigham Young University in the fall majoring in dance education. Her platform is Be-You-Tiful, aiming to promote self-confidence in young girls. She will be dancing for the talent portion of the pageant.

Aubry, Miss La Paz County’s Outstanding Teen, is the 14 year old daughter of Bryan and Jani Herrell. She is a sophomore at Parker High School. Her platform is Tobacco: The Addiction Truth. Due to an injury she will be playing the trumpet for her talent rather than tap dancing.

Julissa, Miss Parker’s Outstanding Teen, is the 15 year old daughter of Eduardo and Carmen Alaniz. She is a sophomore at Parker High School. Her platform is Developing Young Leaders. She will be playing the piano for her talent.

The girls have been working hard preparing for the state pageant as they work on their fitness, talent, and interview skills. They have also been promoting their personal platforms and raising money for Children’s Miracle Network, which is the national platform for the Miss America Organization.

This is the first year the Miss Arizona and Miss Arizona’s Outstanding Teen Pageant will be held together. Mesa Arts Center in Mesa, AZ is the new location of the state pageant. Visit mesaartscenter.com for ticket information or contact director Aryn Romo at (928) 210-6057.
